This article is just my take on how things go about on Facebook.I have no intentions of hurting anyone’s sentiments or pointing at anybody. So if anybody will be hurt by the article I apologise in advance. Even I do some of the things mentioned below. But I just sometimes wonder – Is all this really worth it.

Facebook is the most popular social networking site. My understanding is that it should be used to build social relations. But has it remained only so?  Instead of a social networking site it has become more of a social status site. It is becoming more of a social competition site. It has become an addiction.

Facebook is a lot of good things (in fact more good than bad), but the so-called bad things are really mind-boggling. It is because of the users that Facebook sometimes becomes very overwhelming.

It you do not have many Check-ins into different cities, different high-end restaurants, pubs, bars, theatres.. then your Facebook profile is dull. You are not a very happening person. You are boring. Why do people suddenly have this need to make their life so social and keep nothing to themselves.

What is it with the “FEELING” statuses. Feeling- happy, loved, sad, irritated, disappointed, hungry.. so on and so forth… Why would anybody out there care what one
is feeling. People have their own lives to look into and deal with. And those who really care why shouldn’t we just talk to them instead of putting it on Facebook.

Why do many people have the urge to put in “eating lunch/dinner” at “so and so”. You are not inviting your Facebook Friends. So how and why do they care what you are eating and where. It has become mandatory that if one is going to happen place/a posh place/ a costly place one needs to put it on Facebook. That will definitely be a status statement. Why? What happened to the saying ” a person is defined by his/her deeds.”

Definition of funny is different for different people. Why do people post stupid videos from Dubsmash and then expect likes on them. If people are in a mood to watch
something funny, they might as well watch a comedy show. And as it is Dubsmash videos are not even funny. They are rather disgusting.

Why has expressing on Facebook become important over sharing your feeling with the actual person. Another trend is wishing your loved ones on Facebook with long
sentimental essay like messages. Is that the measure of our love for them. Specially the anniversary messages and birthday messages for spouse/partner are the most
irritating ones. How many of the people who post such touchy and lovely romantic messages on Facebook, actually say these things to their spouses/partners in person. I
think these are special moments of a relationship and they should remain between the involved people themselves. If husband/ wife/partner do not post loving posts on
Facebook on each other’s birthdays and anniversary, are they not in love. ‘Love you mom, dad, bro, sis’ messages! Really!! How many times do we actually tell our parents and siblings how much we love them? Very rarely. But on their every birthday a long sentimental message has to be posted on Facebook for sure.

God forbid the wedding season. From pre- wedding shoots at exotic locations, to wedding, then honeymoon at some overseas place; till the time of pre-pregnancy shoot. For some couples every aspect has to be on Facebook. “To be Mr. and Mrs. and Save the date” statuses. OMG!! Of course you do not intend to invite your whole friend list for the wedding. So why torture them. The whole wedding album and honeymoon album is on Facebook these days. Why not just email the invitations. Or make a group on Watsapp and send invites and share photographs of all the events. What is it about the piling of the so-called candid pics on Facebook. Those are meant to be framed . Those are meant to be for you and your dear ones and not for the social media. By seeing so many uploads of this kind, expectations of people in general are rising . It doesn’t stop there yet. Why do people have to see the pregnant belly of the to be mother on social media site. Pre pregnancy shoot are memories for the couple , not for public in general. The viewers are all not gynecologists. They can do nothing nor give you any suggestions just by seeing your belly. I like seeing photographs of small children..that is fine by me.

If there is nothing substantial to post on Facebook then we will see random selfies (having no significance whatsoever) posted on facebook.

Why is it necessary to share everything we feel on Facebook. Just to get a few likes. Is it not better to talk and share such things with people who really do care.
People now a days even post “Feeling Sick/Ill” statuses and expect likes on such post. And guess what! they do get them. What is there to like if someone is sick. And how has a like become like ‘get well soon/God bless you’. Is it just not better to talk to your doctor, your mum, take meds and just rest; instead of prying over the number of likes the post must have got.

We have started living more in our virtual lives than in our real ones. I am sure , this must have happened with many of us – that we post something of Facebook and
then think afterwards, “was this really necessary”

Facebook has no more remained only a social networking site. It has become a medium to fulfill our need for approval. Even if it is for silly things. Expecting likes and comments for one’s achievements is a good thing. It gives motivation as well. But for every stupid thing we post on Facebook? It is not fair.
Facebook is also a very good platform for expanding business, letting people know about your skills. It’s a good source of entertainment. You get to read many good things, see many good videos, connect with family and friends, get to know what’s happening in their lives even if you don’t talk to them regularly. But at what cost. When will we learn to draw a limit. Just because we are given something we must not overuse it. Everyone including me are not impregnable to the attractions and the lure Facebook has to offer. But the question is to what extent.

Hence, I say “May God save us – The Facebook Users.”

This is so true…the most mean thing is some stupid people sharing posts like “eating lunch with so and so and 69 others” etc. 😂
