Průhonice Park is one of the gems of Czech Republic. It’s a photographer’s delight, a nature lover’s paradise. Just around 18 kilometers from Prague city centre it is a very popular destination with the locals as well as tourists. It’s a perfect place to spend a day at leisure with family and friends.

Průhonice Park is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spread in an area of around 250 hectares, it is the largest Alpine landscape on a natural terrain across Europe. It is a perfect destination for every season. The place has its unique seasonal charms. The Průhonice  castle is also a beautiful site. It is just partially open to public.

The park was founded by Count Arnošt Emanuel Silva-Tarouca in the year 1885. He has a major contribution in making the place what it is today. It was his vision of plantation and landscaping that brought the place to its present glory.

How to Reach Průhonice Park

It takes around 25- 30 minutes to reach Průhonice  Park by car from the Prague city centre.

Public transport is also readily available.

The route for public transport is: Red Metro Line —–> Opatov Stop.
From Opatov ——> Bus No. 363 to Průhonice

The metro ride till Opatov is included in any type of Pass. For passengers without pass, the metro ride will cost 24 CZK (Czech Koruna). The bus ride from Opatov to Průhonice costs 18 CZK per person.

The entry ticket for Průhonice  is 80 CZK for adults and 50 CZK for children between 6 and 15 years, students and senior citizens aged 65 years and above.

Things to do in Průhonice

The park is a popular destination for all seasons. In summers, specially during the month of May, it is full of the beautiful Rhododendron plants. The place looks like a picturesque desktop wallpaper in the Autumn. In winters nothing is more beautiful than the mixture of green and white.

The park is also very popular for taking walks; be it  leisure, romantic or hiking.

The park has three marked trails:
Blue (Basic Route) – around 2.5 kilometers long
Yellow Route – around 5 kilometers long.
Red Route – around 10 kilometers long.

The walking trails are clearly marked throughout the park. Map is also available at the ticket counter.

The park also has a botanical garden. One can find beautiful seasonal flowers in the gardens. It’s a must visit for flower lovers and people who are into gardening. The botanical garden is approachable by all the three routes.

Even though the red route is the longest it covers all the important points of the park. A leisure walk with interval breaks can last up to 4-5 hours. The 10 kilometer hike can also be completed in around 2 to 2.5 hours.

For the most romantic feel visit the park in autumn. The surroundings are so vivid and picturesque that it is impossible to keep your romantic side hidden ;-).

After the walk in the Park a visit to the castle is a must.

After spending an amazing time inside the park ; the ideal end to the trip is a small break for ice- cream or a cake in the small cafe located in the castle compound. For more hungry quests, a lot of good quality restaurants are located in the vicinity. My all time favourite is the Pizza Coloseum.

And if you are smitten by the beauty of the place it is also a popular wedding destination 😉
